| WHAT IS THE PHISH REPORT
NETWORK? The Symantec Phish Report Network (PRN) is an extensive antifraud community where members contribute and receive fraudulent Web site addresses for alerting and blocking attacks across a broad range of solutions. The products and services that benefit from PRN subscription include web browser toolbars, leading web mail services, AntiSpam products, and a host of other products, including Symantec's AntiFraud and AntiSpam solutions. Additionally, law enforcement representatives also participate in the PRN, allowing members and contributors to simultaneously report fraud sites for blocking and for criminal investigation.
The PRN helps companies combat online identity theft by safeguarding consumers from phishing attacks through a diverse protection community that is committed to blocking fraud through many different types of technologies and services. As one of the first worldwide anti-phishing aggregation services, the Phish Report Network provides corporate members and consumer contributors with a means of staging a united front against phishing.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The PRN is comprised of organizations that are Senders and Receivers and consumers that contribute fraudulent website addresses. Any organization being victimized by phishing attacks, such as a financial services or e-commerce company, can subscribe to the PRN as a Sender and begin immediately and securely reporting confirmed phishing sites to a central database operated by Symantec.
As of October, 2006, consumers can now join organizations in the fight against online fraud by contributing information about phishing attacks to the PRN. The process is simple and straight-forward, allowing anyone who has received a fraudulent email message to help thwart would-be victims by getting the information about the attack into the hands of AntiFraud solution providers and law enforcement through the PRN.
Other companies, such as Internet Service Providers (ISPs), spam blockers, security companies, and hosting companies, can join the PRN as Receivers. Subscribing as a Receiver provides access to the database of known phishing sites submitted by the Senders. Using the PRN web service, Receivers can effectively protect consumers by blocking known phishing sites in various software, email, web browsers, and other solutions.
